Quick update from Jacó, Costa Rica! It is a touristy beach town so completely different from where we came from in Nicaragua. It feels a lot more familiar, but there is a thick darkness here. Drug and alcohol use and prostitution are very prevalent in this city. But it is also very beautiful- the beach is about a 15 min walk from Oceans Edge and there are lots of good restaurants and coffee shops!

The ministry we are staying at, Oceans Edge, touches the community in a variety of ways. Their goal is to “romance the city to Christ.” They love and serve this city sacrificially which has resulted in good relationships with the city government and individual businesses. This has led to lots of open doors to get to know people and businesses personally and have spiritual conversations with them.

My team has the opportunity to support Oceans Edge in their goal by talking to every business in Jacó to update their info on the Jacó Beach directory website. This provides us with a reason to go into businesses and connect with the owners and employees. While in the United States we are very focused on productivity and individuality, here in Costa Rica, they are more are much more relational and want to talk to you! This is super exciting because Ticos (people from Costa Rica) aren’t annoyed by people asking them personal questions, but it’s actually expected.

Oceans Edge is also starting a Business as Mission school which is super cool! They are in the process of building a building for the classes and 2 other businesses which will be ran by the people taking the BAM classes. The vision of this building is so exciting and going to be an awesome way to send people out all over the world to spread Jesus’ love through businesses. We have the opportunity to help Oceans Edge by being their “guinea pigs” for the classes. For a couple hours in the morning, we will be “taking” the classes and getting to learn about business as missions.

A few other things we will be involved with is serving at the local church, Horizon Church, and helping out with Surf Club.

Prayer Points

  • For protection and safety for the whole team and ministry
  • For the conversations that we will be having with businesses, that they will be fruitful and that we would be vessels for spreading Christ’s love
  • Open hearts to what the Lord is wanting to teach us through the BAM classes
  • The city of Jacó as a whole, that Christ’s love and light would overcome the darkness that is present

Missing everyone so much! So grateful for your continued prayers! With love, Libbie
